‘Ugh’ Fields and Skipping School

I was reading an article about ‘ugh fields‘ today. The article discusses the consequences of negative conditioning and how activities that we push back tend to get pushed back even further. The more you keep delaying something, the less you want to do it. From my own experience, I’ve noticed this type of thinking in large tasks. Getting something fixed, renting out a space, looking for a job. Precisely for these reasons, it’s something that I’ve tried to be more careful about. By accomplishing it earlier, the positive feedback hits before it gets too far out of control. One random thought it reminded of me were the days of skipping elementary school.

When I was in elementary, I would always skip Monday to play video games at home. One thing I remember vividly is the feeling of going back to the classroom. If there wasn’t significant pressure for me to show up to school, I probably would have skipped more. The issue with skipping school is that it makes it harder to show up later. The more you skip, the less you want to show up which ends up spiraling out of control. Luckily, I wanted to go to school (just not every day), so it didn’t end up becoming particularly bad for me.

There are a couple tasks that are weighing on my mind right now. I’ve been meaning to renew my grandmother’s permanent residency card, cancel one of my subscriptions, get rid of some random shit at my place, and practice some programming concepts. These tasks are all manageable for me right now. Within the earlier half of the year, I felt like I was in a rut and not able to focus on the tasks I wanted to accomplish. Only recently have I felt extremely motivated to do more. I hope this keeps up.
